In 1984, a 24 year old Renold received the Quincy Jones Full Scholarship Award at Berklee College of Music, Boston, where he achieved his B.A in Jazz Performance in 1987 and was voted into the college’s faculty immediately. Since 1997, ‘Fritz Renold and the Bostonian Friends’ have been signed to the label SONY – BMG Music – Columbia Records in New York. With ca. 500 compositions, premiers and several Grammy pre-nomination recordings to his name, the composer, saxophonist and arranger from Aargau belongs to one of the few music entrepreneurs in Switzerland. Helen Savari Renold, wife of Fritz Renold – a classically trained singer, pianist and songwriter is one of Cenderawasih, a duet signed with EMI, and one of Malaysia’s leading groups in the early 80s that contributed in modernizing Malaysian Pop music. Besides a Bachelor’s degree in Jazz Composition from the Berklee College of Music, Boston (’88), Helen is also a certified music pedagogue with diplomas in Adult Education and in Education Design. As a business partner of Shanti Music Productions Renold & Co. in Switzerland Helen co-developed the unique Bandstand Learning with Role Models™ that is implemented at the Jazzaar Festival in Aarau annually since 1992. Helen has performed with Herb Pomeroy, Adam Nussbaum, Christian Jacob, Tommy Campbell, Bobby Watson, and many more. She is a producer at the Jazzaar Festival and presides over the Jazzaar Association since 2008.
Andre Zollinger is a multi talented artist who is from Switzerland. He is trumpeter who studied at the Berklee College of Music in the 1980s and has an education as a Chef too. Andre returned to Switzerland a few years back and is making a niche for himself as a musician cum chef!
Upon leaving Berklee College of Music, Markus, a Yamaha Saxophone endorser and award winner from several cultural institutions went on to work with jazz greats like Clark Terry, Billy Cobham, Adam Nussbaum, Mark Soskin, Harie Swartz, Terry Lynn Carrington, Seven and many more. Markus Hauser remains one of the few Swiss musicians that indeed make a living out of music without relying on a teaching position. This native of Glarus is also a specialist is building extraordinary quality saxophone mouthpieces. Together with his brother, he had developed their latest model – the Kenny Garret Mouthpiece, which is renowned to be the world’s best Saxophone mouthpiece to date.
