Jazz History & Pop Weekend
Music Holiday Weekend Course
Jazz History crash course & The Music of Simon and Garfunkel on 17 – 18 October 2015
Here are 2 separate courses; one handles a thorough look at Jazz History and the other studies the music of the pop duo Simon and Garfunkel when they were at their peak of their careers together.
Course 1: Jazz History
Jazz History Crash Course
Jazz did not start in New Orleans, nor in Chicago, but it is the musical evolution of a mass migration, which began in 1400 and in Africa and to this day still finds new impetus for its development around the globe. Jazz history cannot overlook the chronology of the race of people that was uprooted from Africa to America and ironically gave America it’s single musical heritage. The history course is accompanied by numerous musical examples and anecdotes from the life and experience of the chosen faculty with legends of jazz. During these two days you will be pampered with culinary experiences that trace the geographical and cultural pathways that Jazz had encountered and enjoy many moments with like-minded Jazz enthusiasts. A perfect weekend with fine food for thought and the palette.
Instrumentation: Every instrumentalist and vocalist is welcome.
A minimum of 12 participants is necessary for the course to take place and a maximum of 30 participants will be the limit.
Coach: Fritz Renold
Course 2: The Music of Simon & Garfunkel
Simon & Garfunkel was an American music duo consisting of singer-songwriter Paul Simon and singer Art Garfunkel. They formed the group Tom & Jerry in 1957 and had their first success with the minor hit “Hey, Schoolgirl”. As Simon & Garfunkel, the duo rose to fame in 1965, largely on the strength of the hit single “The Sound of Silence”. Their music was featured in the landmark film The Graduate (1967), propelling them further into the public consciousness.
